Description

This sale is for a Antique 4/4 Violin With Black Coffin Type Wood Case & Bow for a Restoration Project. I am inclined to think the violin originates in West Germany because the chin rest is stamped with that. However, the chin rest could have been a later addition.
This would be a great project to restore back to life. You can tell that this violin has a long history and has been played and enjoyed by many people.
Seller only ships to 48 contiguous United States of America.
Thanks for looking.
More Product Info:
CASE
Length: 31"
Thickness 4"
Taper of Width Back to Front: 9" to 4"
Original color of case appears to be black. There are lots of scratches and worn paint, especially on the bottom of the case. It appears that great care was made in building this "coffin" style case. The inside appears to have original wall paper (for lack of a better term). It appears that someone installed a home made bow holder on the inside of the lid. The hardware for the most part is original, however the latches appear to have been added later. I found and am including the two original swing hooks that went with the original latch.
VIOLIN
Length: approx 23"
Thickness: 1 1/2"
Violin looks like a quality build, there are ornamental markings on the back. The wood has a very dark patina, the edge of the body seems to be made of a different kind of material.
BOW
Length: 29"
Weight: 50kg
The bow appears to be good quality, there are no markings on it but it has mother of pearl inlay on the frog and tip.
ACCESSORIES
Chin Rest looks to be in great condition, stamped Western Germany.
Old mechanical keys look to be in working condition.
Two bridges look to be in good shape.
