Description
Up for sale is thisAntique German made Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis 4/4 Violin, with hard case.
DISCLAIMER:
Folks... I know a thing or two about fiddlin' around, but I don't know anything about antique violins. I'm a yard sale bandit and auction junkie.... not a luthier by any means. (Heck... I had look up 'luthier'). So PLEASE look over the pics closely and ask any questions you may have!
THE SIZE:
This is a 4/4 or full size violin, according to the interwebs. It measures approximately 23.25" overall and the body measures a smidge over 14".
THE MARKINGS:
This old boy has a label on the inside which says
Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis
Faciebat Anno 1786 (The 86 is handwritten - could be 36)
Made in Germany
Other than that, I don't see any other markings. SEE the pic of the label in the images.... could say 1736 or 1786. This, of course, is a German copy of the master's work, and the sticker a simple homage to Stradivari. Since Stradivari died in 1737, it's likely this intended to say 1736, copying a later model. That, of course, is full speculation.... feel free to chime in with any info you may have!
CONDITION:
The violin is in overall sound condition, with general signs of age and usage. It seems to be complete, but please remember I'm an armature.
Possible Repair:
There is a spot at the back of the body, on the left side of the neck which looks like it might be a repaired. I've provided a photos from that angle so you can see it. Also of note, there is a bit of a ding to the point on the cutout on the left side.... see the closeup of that side and you'll see it. There are scuffs and dings as you would expect from an older, unrestored instrument. It has considerable 'character'! I'm not saying this is the fiddle with which Johnny bested the devil.... but I'm not saying it
isn't
that fiddle, either. Look over the pics closely and ask any questions.. particularly if you'd like me to check any particular area. I don't play, but I would assume this violin is in payable condition!
NO BOW ....
No bow is included, you'll receive only what is shown in the pics... the violin, a pretty darn nice hard case and couple odds and ends which were in the case.
THE CASE:
This will come with a nice hard shell case in very solid condition. It has some white scuffs on the exterior which did not easily wipe off and there is mild corrosion on the metal parts, which should clean up fine with some Never Dull and elbow grease. The inside is a luxurious blue velvet.
SHIPPING:
This will come to you quickly, very well packaged and shipped for FREE via FedEx Ground OR USPS Priority Mail, whichever service is cheapest to your location.
Thanks for looking!
