Description
Ernst Heinrich Roth Violin / Copy of Antonius Stradivarius / Purchased in 1930. All of the violin related items in the photos are included. Condition is used, it appears to need restrung but it certainly a functional piece if this is accomplished. This violin was purchased new by my great uncle in 1930, and was then passed on to my family about 10 years ago. Nobody in my family ever learned to play, and we would rather place the violin with someone who can care for and better appreciate it.
The label is included in the photos, it reads “Copy of Antonius Stradivarius made under the supervision of Ernst Heinrich Roth” with “Germany” in the bottom right corner, as well as the pencil marked number “37.” I was able to locate online forums with pieces bearing the same markings. We have never sent it to be authenticated or appraised. I found a forum with someone who had a violin with similar markings: https://www.violinist.com/discussion/archive/28358/
Based on this information, to the best of our knowledge the violin is an early 1920s Roth 120-R violin.
The bow is unmarked, but our understanding is that it was purchased along with the violin in 1930. If you can shed any light on this portion of the piece feel free to message.
The items will be shipped with great care, and will come inside of the case seen in the photos that was given to us at the time we were given the violin.
