  • Condition: This Violin has had some repairs and it has some honest 200 year old wear. This is a playable instrument. I recently set it up with new strings and a old ebony tailpiece. See picture and ask questions. This has a label inside by someone who repaired it in 1942 His name was Anson Lister he wrote on his label made in Germany about 125 years ago. Which would mean it was built in about 1817 The fingerboard is most likely ebony the back is 2 pieces are of fiddle back maple. The tuners are mixed some are old and some are newer. The tailpiece is old the end pin is old, chin rest is old . soundpost is in place. It is in good condition for and old instrument but it has been around a long time and shows the wear. It comes in a cheap old case.No bow included. I will do my best to answer any questions you may have. See pictures they give a good idea of its condition. I am only forwarding information on this that I read inside the Violin. I have no way to prove it age or the make.

    1817 VINTAGE STRADIVARIUS STYLE / EARLY 1800'S   3/4 SIZE VIOLIN  21+ INCHES IN GOOD CONDITION
    This Violin is a 3/4 size violin. It shows use & has some possible top cracks they would appear to be repaired or they may not be cracks at all if they are they are small and tight, it is used & playable and it sounds fine. I installed a new set of strings and a used vintage tailpiece with one fine tuner it would be best if it had 4 fine tuners I will leave that to the new owner.  I think this one is in  good  shape for it age and the amount of use it has had. It has some wood missing on the top on the lower side on the point and above. The joints appear tight and there are no cracks on the neck back or sides that I can find. The Neck is carved from some Non Flame wood  I wonder if that will give any clues to it's age or where it was made. The only label I see is the one from the repairman in 1942.  If you have any questions about size please verify it before you agree to purchase. This one is Approx. 21 1/2" total length see my tape measure in one pic that is its size.  I do not know this violins actual age or even where it is made I am relying on the repairmans statement from 1942 on his label.  He said it was made in Germany about 125 years ago. I do not know why he knew that !!  Which should make it about 200 years old.  Did it have a label inside before he added his label over it ?  Or did he just guess based on the construction and woods used ? I do not know !!
