This listing is for a 4/4 violin made in Germany. The label reads "Copy of Jacobus Stainer, Made in Germany." "Stainer" is stamped on the upper back. This is a Pre-WWI German instrument was probably made around 1900 or earlier. This violin is a "Marneukarchen", who was a German wholesaler and exporter of fine violins. German violin makers from around the region would make instruments and then sell them to Marneukarchen for export, generally to the US market. This exporter handled over the years thousands of instruments from many cottage builders. This example is in top playing condition and has been set-up by an expert string instrument restorer. This instrument was appraised for resale by luthier, Reese Williams of Fairview Park, Ohio. Please see his website for his complete resume and credentials. The finished was slightly distressed by the manufacturer. This violin was not a standard production instrument. The purling is inlaid and it has a new, correctly fitted bridge and sound post. There are no cracks or chips. It has an ebony finger board, tailpiece and trim. The pegs are not original. It has been outfitted with Thomastik-Infeld Dominant strings.
